Science Olympiad

Science Olympiad is an annual science competition held in February amongst all Central Plains League middle schools.

Teamwork is a required skill in most scientific careers today, and Science Olympiad encourages group learning by designing events that forge alliances. (taken from https://www.soinc.org/info/about-science-olympiad).

Seventh and eighth grade students participate in pairs to complete a science task while competing against different schools.  Points are given to teams that rank 1st-6th place in the individual events; overall team points are added to then award the school with the highest number of points.  There is also a Science Quiz Bowl division that consists of four team members that participate in a science question "jeopardy"-type competition.

Students that have high rankings in their current science courses with positive attitudes toward the subject area and teamwork are invited to be a part of the Science Olympiad team.

Currently there are no practices for the Science Olympiad team; students will show up on competition day and use their teamwork skills and science knowledge to solve a science problem.
