Battle of the Books (BOB)

Battle of the Books (BOB) is an academic team that competes with other 5th and 6th graders in our district and league.  Meets are held on each Wednesday in February during the school day. Students travel to meets with team sponsors and return before the end of the school day.

Students compete by buzzing in to answer questions from a list of twelve books.  Book lists change each year and are available at the start of the school year.  Reading each book is not necessary, although a definite advantage.  Team tryouts are based on knowledge of books, must have book title and author memorized, and a test given at the start of the second semester. Looking up and reading each book summary on Amazon is the best way to prepare for a BOB team tryout.  The team will practice twice a week throughout January and February.  Students on the team are expected to stay current with their assignments and to check with teachers to obtain any work they would miss due to a BOB meet.  Team members must remain eligible with their grades to attend and participate in meets.

We are looking forward to a great season this Spring! If you have any questions, see Mrs. Hampton or Mrs. Schell.  Happy reading!
