Scholars Bowl is a quiz-based competition that tests players on a wide variety of academic subjects, including Social Sciences, Language Arts, Math, Science, Current Events, Fine Arts, & Sports. Players are read questions and try to score points for their team by buzzing first, each competitor holds a buzzer and the first to buzz in gets an opportunity to answer the question and earn points for his or her team.
Seventh and eighth grade students participate on the scholars bowl team. One team of only 8th graders and one team of only 7th graders. Each team contains seven members.
Everyone is welcome to try out for Scholars Bowl, but to qualify to be a part of the Scholars Bowl team students will take a test over multiple academic areas (listed above). Students will be selected to the team based upon not only scores from the try-out test bus also based upon classroom behavior (work-ethic, attitude, perserverance, etc.).
Starting in January there will be about two practices and one competition per week. There are only five major competitions in a season, and the season ends in February.
